Master of Education in Coaching Studies (MEd)

Tag

This non- thesis option degree provides you with a program of studies with a particular focus on coaching science.  This is a summer-based program and is largely course-based.  Twelve units of required courses are completed during July /August over two consecutive summers.  An additional three units of elective courses must be completed and may be taken off campus.  You also complete two four-month cooperative work terms, a comprehensive exam and a project.  The program length is usually two years inclusive of two four-month cooperative education work terms.

The MEd CS program is available as a balance between academic and experiential learning. The cooperative education experiences you engage in are intended to provide opportunities to integrate academic studies with the 'real world' — praxis (reflective action). You will be expected to apply your research, analysis, critical thinking and communication (oral and written) skills in a variety of coach-based settings and at a graduate level of thinking, reflecting and writing. For the most part, MEd CS students practice coaching skills within the sport of your choice and within schools, with the National Coaching Institute, sport organizations, coaching associations, post-secondary institutions, with 'elite' teams, and in other coaching circumstances. As graduate students, you are required to meet and maintain rigorous academic standards. Link to more information about our Cooperative Education Programs here.
