Sylvia Pantaleo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria, Canada. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in children's literature and all areas of the language arts. Her 12 years of elementary and middle school teaching experience inform her university teaching and research program. Sylvia’s research explores several aspects associated with using children’s literature in elementary and middle school classrooms including students’ experiences with literature, teaching strategies and resources, and teachers’ professional development. Some of her professional activities include reviewing children’s and young adolescent literature, reviewing manuscripts for professional journals, and co-authoring a textbook about working with children’s literature in elementary classrooms.
